A glance at photographic plates I-VI appended to the publication should give the reader some idea of the difficulties faced by the editors of this latest volume of Discoveries in the Judaean Desert (DJD). Not all of the ten biblical texts published here are as difficult to read as the deteriorated script of 4QpaleoGen-Exod(1), but all of them are fragmentary and some are no more than tiny pieces. It has taken nearly forty years and three generations of scholars (the late Patrick W. Skehan, Eugene Ulrich, and Judith Sanderson) to bring this work to fruition. Has it been worth the effort expended? And is this the material that the scholarly world has been waiting for?
