Can integrated David beat off best-of-breed Goliath?
David Tebbutt
In teaming up with a bunch of social software suppliers for Suite Two, Intel's venture capital arm, Intel Capital, put the cat among the Web 2.0 pigeons in the US, not to mention Bulgaria.
Blogtronix, based in the US and Bulgaria and not part of the Suite Two gang, was thrilled that such a big name had validated its vision for integrated wiki, blog, news feeding and reading etc, etc. On the other hand, it boasted that its own unified platform was better than best-of-breed solutions such as Suite Two.
And Blogtronix has a point. It has a unified system built by a single team rather than one made up of several good products bolted together, each with its own values, methods, style and development teams.
The big difference, though, is that Blogtronix is still striving for name recognition while the better known Suite Two players can hitch a lift on the Intel name and take advantage of Intel's channels to market. Outside of development shops, Intel isn't well known for software products and services, but the power of its name should still open doors.
