Dec. 2--The Journal Register Co. yesterday announced that it was selling its seven Southeastern Massachusetts newspapers to GateHouse Media for $70 million in cash.
The deal will mean new ownership for The Herald News of Fall River and the Taunton Daily Gazette, as well as three weekly newspapers and two shopper publications and leaves uncertain the future of the company's Rhode Island newspapers, including The Pawtucket Times, Woonsocket Call, Kent County Daily Times, and the Warwick Daily Times.
