Rwanda Joins EA Community.

Rwanda and Burundi have been accepted as members of the East African Community (EAC), expanding the regional economic bloc to five nations, the EAC said yesterday.

"This decision opens a new chapter in our cooperation. I congratulate Rwanda and Burundi for joining our family of EAC members," Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete told an EAC summit in the north Tanzanian town of Arusha.

The EAC previously grouped Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, which hope to transform the region into a political federation.
