Dec. 2--The Houston Independent School District and state officials are investigating allegations that a for-profit company that runs an HISD charter school has been inflating attendance numbers to garner extra money, officials said Thursday. Accelerated Learning and Transition Academy in southeast Houston serves about 750 students at risk of dropping out, but some former employees say the school recorded attendance for about 150 students in home- room classes that don't exist.
