Premier Su Tseng-chang has come under friendly fire.

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party lawmakers delivered a broadside against the premier yesterday after he had his minister of justice and comptroller explain on Wednesday special expense allowances are part of the stipends of top public office holders.

Spearheading the attack on Su were lawmakers of the DPP Welfare State faction, of which former premier Frank Hsieh, who is running for mayor of Taipei, is the leader.

Lawmaker Hsieh Hsin-ni, one of the ex-premier's strongest supporters, questioned why Su should help Taipei mayor Ma Ying-jeou get off the hook.
