Collections Council of Australia Ltd Digital Collections Summit, Adelaide, 16-17 August 2006.(Conference news)
Held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, this summit attracted nearly 200 delegates from across the entire spectrum of collecting institutions and related organizations. The aim was to bring together those involved with the development and maintenance of digital collections in order to explore the similarities and differences across the sectors and to assess the potential for a coordinated and strategic direction for the preservation and making available of such collections.
The Collections Council was established by the state and federal governments to encourage collaboration and linkages within the collections sector and with government and other bodies. This summit was its first major initiative focused on digital collections, and was the first time in Australia that all four sectors (museums, libraries, archives and galleries) had gathered together to consider the issue as a group.
