Frentzen fired
Audi fired former Formula One driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen from its DTM German touring car team after one season. Frentzen, who retired from the season-ender at Hockenheim after colliding with teammate Mattias Ekstrom, said the team had not accepted him and had not supported him fully. Frentzen contested 10 races for Audi and had two third-place finishes. Meanwhile, Jean Alesi confirmed that he will not continue in the series, and Mercedes-Benz has yet to renew the contract of Mika Hakkinen, another former F1 star.
Zanardi rides again
Alex Zanardi will drive a specially modified BMW Sauber F1.06 at Valencia in Spain during the Formula BMW World Final on Nov. 24-26. The team is modifying the car for the WTCC BMW driver, who lost both legs in a Champ Car accident at the Lausitzring five years ago.
Job done
Alex Job Racing is leaving the ALMS. Since 1999, AJR has assembled 39 wins, 46 pole positions and 79 podium finishes in the ALMS. The team also has three series championships, two 24 Hours of Le Mans wins, and six victories in the 12 Hours of Sebring. In 2006, the team won only once, at Houston.
This year, despite running the whole ALMS schedule, Job entered the Grand-American Series' 24 Hours of Daytona with a Porsche-powered Crawford in the Daytona Prototype class, qualifying first and finishing third. AJR won twice and finished fifth in the championship, and will be back at the 2007 Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona with the Porsche-Crawford. ...
