Nov. 15--Although not entirely reliable when comparing hospitals, data on infection rates among patients at Pennsylvania's 168 hospitals is still useful, medical professionals and consumer advocates said Tuesday.
"While you shouldn't be comparing hospital to hospital, it does give us an opportunity to talk to other hospitals to say, 'You have a very low infection rate, so what are you doing?' " said Dr. Samuel Alfano, vice president of medical affairs at St. Joseph Medical Center.
