Nov. 15--The future of one of Hickory's three city-run swimming pools is in question after parks staff discovered a sizable leak. City staff detected the problem in the spring as they prepared to open the pool, at St. Stephens Park on 36th Avenue N.E. behind Clyde Campbell Elementary School. A repair would cost an estimated $300,000 or more, staff say. The city kept the pool closed throughout the swimming season. After finding the leak, the staff researched the park's ownership and found that Catawba County legally owns the park, including the pool, according to a memo City Manager Mick Berry sent to City Council.
