OVER 30,000 students yesterday began returning home after Makerere University closed indefinitely.
Uganda's oldest university closed shop after striking lecturers declined to return to the classroom as the strike over an unfulfilled salary pledge entered its second week.
The decision to close the university was announced by the acting Chairperson of the University Council John Ntimba shortly after an emergency council meeting at Mulago Medical School. The Council is the university's highest decision-making body.
