Nov. 14--There was probably no one more relieved than Germantown Academy girls' basketball coach Sherri Retif after her junior standout, Caroline Doty, revealed yesterday that she has orally committed to play for Connecticut.

"I remember thinking when she was a freshman and being sought, this could be torture for four years," Retif said of Doty, a two-time all-Southeastern Pennsylvania pick by The Inquirer and a member of the Associated Press' small-school all-state team last season.

"Fortunately, Caroline's very grounded. Now she can face the task at hand."
