Nov. 14--More than one in every 10 patients who acquired infections at Lehigh Valley Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital last year died, a rate six times greater than that of patients without infections.

Yet, the 12 percent death rate at LVH's Salisbury and Allentown sites and 12.7 percent death rate at St. Luke's Fountain Hill and Allentown sites still ran below the statewide average of 12.9 percent, a new state report shows.
