CELLPHONE NUMBER PORTABILITY The urge to switch Mobile number portability, while offering consumers the option of switching cellphone providers without losing their number, is unlikely to have a meaningful impact on the telecommunications industry. Portability will finally be introduced on Friday after repeated delays.

But, according to research by market intelligence firm World Wide Worx, there won't be a spike in customer churn between cellular network operators. Nor will there be a price war.
