Nov. 12--So you've decided to plunk down big bucks on a new high-definition television, one of those plasma, LCD or DLP things you keep hearing about.
The pictures that HDTV bestows upon its couch potatoes are clearer and more detailed than images from traditional analog TV sets. If you remember seeing your first DVD movie after years of watching videocassettes, the switchover experience is similar.
Most consumers are buying plasma, LCD or DLP digital television sets, or variations of those.
Each uses a different technology, which brings with it price differences and strengths and weaknesses over the others. Yet there are other matters to consider when making an HDTV purchase.
"There's so much confusion out there as far as after you make that decision on which TV to buy, people get it home they say, 'Well now what?'" said Henry Clifford, who is president of Livewire, an entertainment-center installer in Henrico County.
