Nov. 11--Helen Thomas, veteran White House correspondent and columnist, is famous for asking hard questions, but she can unleash some pretty tough answers, too.

Thomas critiqued national news reporting, bloggers, the Bush administration and this week's election during a talk yesterday at Virginia Commonwealth University, part of a conference that examined changes in the media.

She is not a fan of bloggers: "I don't think it is journalism. It's people's opinions on the Internet. Everybody who has a laptop thinks they're a journalist. They do not have the standards we have for journalism."
