Nov. 10--After rushing for 1,000 yards as a freshman in 2003, Rogers High School tailback Lamar Norman wanted to make a change before his sophomore season.

"I asked if I could wear No. 1," said Norman, who had worn jersey No. 24. "Coaches told me I had to earn the number. I had to be the first one here and the last one to leave. Basically, I had to show my leadership. Wearing No. 1 means a lot."

Norman received that number as a sophomore and has lived up to those requirements. He will still be wearing No. 1 when the Ropers make their first playoff appearance since 1985. Rogers (6-4) visits top-ranked Bixby (9-1) for a Class 5A first-round game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
