India: Tata Steel Ltd. executive comments on steel production issues in Asia.

Section: Regional News - Asian steel manufacturers should set up steel production and casting facilities close to raw-material sources through acquisitions or direct investment to reduce their logistics costs, said an industry expert, the Bangkok Post reports.

Rolling mills, on the other hand, could be located in different places from the casting plants, shifting the focus of steel manufacturers away from fully integrated steel mills, suggested Tridibesh Mukherjee, deputy managing director for Indian giant Tata Steel Ltd.

He called this philosophy ''de-integrated production''.
