MetaLib a portal of choice

Cambridge Journals has adopted MetaLib portal technology from library software specialists Ex Libris. The new portal uses the Cambridge University Press XML gateway to access 200 online academic journals. MetaLib is the first metasearch application that gives users access to online Cambridge Journals, which, according to MetaLib, is among its most requested database resource.

IBM calls for patent reform

IBM has launched an initiative -- Global Innovation Outlook 2.0 -- to open a discussion on US patent reform. IBM is the largest register of non-Federal patents in the US, having filed 2,941 utility patents in 2005. The system's prime abusers are 'patent trolls', companies that enforce their rights against alleged infringers, often settling out of court for large sums, though never intending to use the patents.
