Companies drown in information
Kim Thomas
A staggering 40% of companies do not have an information strategy in place, according to a survey of information professionals carried out by Farrugia Leo Research and Consultancy, on behalf of IWR's publishers, VNU Business Publications.
At the same time, half of the 650 respondents said their company was either 'reliant' or 'very reliant' on information management systems.
The picture emerging from the survey is one of organisations drowning in information. When asked to specify the main information challenges their company faces, 35% of respondents said 'information overload', another 35% said 'improving data quality of internal information' and 34% specified 'making sure things are documented in the first place'.
Much lower down the list of information challenges was 'inadequate search technologies' (12%) and 'keeping up to date with software offerings' (13%).
