Champ Car racer Paul Tracy, who ran six Busch races in 2006, says his NASCAR aspirations are over. "I enjoyed my experiences in NASCAR, and I appreciate the relationships that I have developed during my first season of stock cars... However, Champ Car is where my heart is, and it's where I come from.''
Rocket Racer revealed
On Oct. 20 during the X Prize Cup aerospace event at Las Cruces, New Mexico, the Rocket Racing League unveiled Thunderhawk, the first of its planned fleet of X-Racer competition aircraft. A highly modified Velocity SE-FG airframe, it will be powered by a liquid-fueled XCOR Aerospace motor generating 1500 pounds of thrust. Flight testing is to begin by the end of this year, and at least three races are planned for next August through October. Visit autoweek.com for more on the Rocket Racing League.
Imola out
There will be no San Marino Grand Prix at Imola in Italy in 2007, after all. Imola mayor Massimo Marchignoli admitted defeat after receiving a letter from F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone that said no contract is in place with SAGIS, the race promoter. SAGIS, a joint venture involving the Imola civic body and the Automobile Club di Bologna, will reapply for a Grand Prix in 2008.
