If there was any doubt about the adage "sex sells,'' you only had to be in Akron, Ohio, for this year's Austin-Healey Conclave.
During the course of a week, hundreds of the sexiest classic English sports cars ever produced turned out in force.
Sure, some will argue the Jaguar XKE is sexier. But you didn't dare suggest anything of the sort at this year's Conclave, which attracted Austin-Healey owners from across the country.
Craig Rice said his Austin-Healey 100, one of the "big'' Healeys created by Donald Healey, was so sexy and tempting that his dad hid it from him for years.
"My father bought it new in 1954,'' said Rice. "To get it away from me, the car was shipped to Miami and stayed in the garage of a collector-a friend of his.''
In 1957, when the younger Rice graduated from high school, his dad handed over the keys to the luscious green roadster. Rice has been driving it ever since, including to the Conclave, 300 miles and five hours away from his home in Indianapolis.
