Google aims at educators

Google has continued its bid for a slice of the education market with the launch of new services to help teachers and lecturers use its products.

The two new websites, Google for Educators and Google Apps for Education, are the latest stage in the search engine's concerted campaign to move into the educational sector.

Roddy MacLeod, senior subject librarian at Heriot-Watt University, said: "Having a search engine interested in these areas creates competition for other service providers and keeps them on their feet. Librarians need to accept this. We can't keep our heads in the sand."
