NDA sparks the creation
of a nuclear disaster plan
Tracy Caldwell
Information professionals in the nuclear industry have been meeting with digital preservation experts to thrash out solutions to the raft of new information management issues they face due to the creation of the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency (NDA).
Information handling in the nuclear sector is subject to legislation from an increasing number of bodies. For example, DEFRA and the Environment Agency impose environmental record-keeping requirements.
The nuclear industry has unique information preservation issues. It needs to preserve records and the knowledge of how to use the information for millennia. The NDA will create a national nuclear archive as there is a lot of data at various nuclear sites, ranging from operational information to results of tests that need to be maintained for an extended period.
