Byline: Sean Barker
Nov. 8--Yale sophomore linebacker Bobby Abare has been named defensive player of the week by both the Ivy League and I-AA.org after his three interceptions against Brown Saturday.
Abare, who leads the Bulldogs with 65 tackles and four interceptions, returned an interception for a touchdown for the second straight week. He is one interception shy of tying the single-season record for a Yale linebacker, shared by Lee Driftmier (2005), Carl Ricci (1994) and Jack Sellati (1975). Ricci was the last Yale linebacker to get three interceptions in a game, also against Brown.
SOME SCENARIOS: Only Yale (5-0), Harvard (4-1) and Princeton (4-1) remain in the hunt for the league title.
Yale needs to win one of its final two games to clinch a share of the title. The Bulldogs play host to Princeton Saturday at 12:30 p.m., then play at Harvard Nov. 18 at noon.
If Yale wins both games, or Harvard loses both games (the Crimson play at Penn Saturday), then Yale wins its first outright title since 1980.
If Princeton wins its final two games, it will clinch a share of its ninth title. Princeton play host to Dartmouth Nov. 18.
