Nov. 8--HARTFORD -- Republican M. Jodi Rell rolled to an easy victory over Democratic challenger John DeStefano Jr. Tuesday, riding the same tide of good will that greeted her when she first took office 28 months ago.
Rell took 62 percent of the vote to 38 percent for DeStefano. The total votes were 337,822 for Rell, 198,916 for DeStefano.
Rell received DeStefano's concession call at about 10 p.m. and entered the ballroom of the Marriot Hotel in Hartford about 25 minutes later to the enthusiastic cheers of several hundred supporters.
"This is our moment," Rell said. "It really is our time to make a difference for our state. We are going to get the job done for Connecticut."
Rell apologized to the crowd, saying she had caught a cold in the last few days. "I can't talk too loud and I can't talk too long." said Rell. "But we're not going to be short on celebration. ... this is a wonderful moment."
She was joined on stage by her lieutenant governor, Michael Fedele of Stamford, and their families. Rell spoke for four minutes before waving her farewells.
