Nov. 8--Heavily Democratic Anson County came through for incumbent Pryor Gibson on Tuesday, helping him swamp Republican Jim Bention Sr.
Gibson, D-Wadesboro, won re-election to N.C. House District 69 with 8,535 votes, or 67 percent, to Bention's 4,274, or 33 percent. The district encompasses Anson and eastern Union counties. Though Bention fared well in the latter region, Anson County voted for Gibson more than 5 to 1. Gibson, a construction manager for Time Warner Cable, has served in the General Assembly for five terms. Bention was a conservative black Republican pastor from Monroe in a district with a large black population.…
