Nov. 8--With Election Day over, it's now D-Day for thousands of students in Philadelphia public schools. In this case, the 'D' is for Deficit.
Today, schools chief Paul Vallas will outline proposed cuts to fill a projected $73.3 million hole in the district's $2.1 billion budget. He will announce the cuts at a 1 p.m. meeting of the School Reform Commission. But Vallas won't be the only one talking. Thirty-five speakers have signed up to address the SRC today, and 21 of them plan to talk about the budget cuts, district officials said.
