SHANGHAI, November 07, 2006, SinoCast -- Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMI), China's leading chip maker, announced on November 5 that it posted a third-quarter net loss on weak chip prices.
China's largest foundry by capacity said its factory utilization fell on soft global demand for computer chips. The company manufactures dynamic-random-access-memory chips and integrated circuits.
Hong Kong-listed SMIC said its third-quarter net loss was USD 35.1 million, wider than the year-earlier USD 26.1 million.
The company had reported a net profit of USD 2.2 million in the second quarter. …
