A personal laser printer with 600-dot-per-inch resolution capable of printing 6 pages per minute was unveiled by Epson America Inc. at spring Comdex in Atlanta last week.

Epson's ActionLaser 1600 comes with 45 built-in scalable fonts, Resolution Improvement Technology for less jagged characters, 2MB of RAM, and emulation of Hewlett-Packard Co.'s PCL 5e as the default printer control language.

The printer, scheduled to ship in June, can support as many as 33 shades of gray using the standard PCL 5e emulator.

If the printer is equipped with an optional PostScript Level 2-compatible module, it will support as many as 77 levels of gray scale.
