Nov. 3--Because so little is known about sudden infant death syndrome, the parents who lose a child to this malady can be forever wracked by guilt. They live their lives wondering whether they could have done something to prevent their child's death. Now, according to a study in The Journal of the American Medical Association, the mysteries of SIDS, or crib death, as it is sometimes known, are beginning to unravel.
SIDS is a label given to infant deaths that remain unexplained after an investigation can find no cause. Babies who sleep on their bellies are at a higher risk of SIDS. Deaths have decreased since doctors began telling parents to put babies to bed on…
