President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo wants the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to become a forum for regional cooperation in security.

"In the light of recent events in North Korea, regional peace and security has never been more important, " said Mrs. Arroyo in her opening statement during the commemorative summit of the 15th anniversary of ASEAN- China relations yesterday in Nanning.

Negotiations are underway to create the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area by 2010, a trading group encompassing nearly two billion people and a gross domestic pro-duct of more than $2 …
