Political education, the introduction of popular democracy based on the resistance councils (later local councils) and the creation of a pro-people army are the pillars of the national democratic revolution that was introduced by Yoweri Museveni and the NRM.

The relevance of political education in a post-colonial society such as ours has been recognised by many a great mind. When the Sudan People's Liberation Movement's John Garang visited the National Leadership Institute (NALI) at Kyankwanzi, he asserted in its visitor's book that "political education is a must".
