Optical Data Systems Inc. (ODS) plans to support future Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) by integrating its Infinity series of intelligent hubs with the Cisco 7000 router.

The Infinity 7000+ will begin shipping after final testing by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), expected within a month. Prices will start at $19,900.

"We built a whole new backplane to Cisco specifications so that the Cisco 7000 cards fit," said Terry Gaston, ODS marketing vice president. "This provides customers with a common hardware platform for all the modules, either ATM, routers, or others."
