Alliance lands Federal Express. (Alliance Airport; Federal Express Corp.) (Best Real Estate Deals of 1993)
FORT WORTH -- A project that has community impact is one that causes tremors throughout a city -- by bringing jobs, boosting the tax base and forging a new image for the area.
Federal Express Corp.'s regional hub at Alliance Airport in Fort Worth is worthy of the description.
In 1993 the freight and package carrier bought 158 acres at the airport with plans to spend between $200 million and $300 million on a regional hub. Construction of the facility will start this summer, when hundreds of people will be needed to build the facility. Once it opens in 1997, the hub will employ 600.
