Kenya sacks striking university lecturers.

Twelve university lecturers were yesterday sacked and 18 others were suspended as the strike entered its fourth day.

Egerton University sacked 10 lecturers, among them Universities Academic Staff Union [UASU] Secretary-General Muga K'Olale, while Kenyatta gave marching orders to two lecturers and suspended 18.

UASU Deputy National Secretary-General Richard Wafula, who is also the Kenyatta University chapter secretary-general, and Mr Joseph Kinyanjui, the chapter's chairman, were picked up from the university at noon and taken to Nairobi's Kasarani Police Station where they were served with their dismissal letters by security agents from the university.
