Taipei, Oct. 25, 2006 (CENS)--Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has decided to subsidize a preliminary research project mapped out by a forward versatile disc (FVD) format/product promotion alliance set up by five local companies so as to more actively promote the homegrown industry standard

The FVD is Taiwan's red-laser based high definition (HD) DVD-like format which was driven by Taiwan's Advanced Optical Storage Research Alliance (AOSRA) in conjunction with the government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
