Oct. 25--In some ways, District 1 is a wild card. It's the only seat on the nine-member Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners with no incumbent seeking re-election. The district's current representative, Republican Jim Puckett, is running at-large. Republican Karen Bentley and Democrat Thurman Ross, a Cornelius town commissioner, are vying to replace him. Both Ross and Bentley say voters in the north Mecklenburg district are talking about schools and the impact of growth.
