Oct. 25--A former East Lincoln High School teacher was charged Tuesday with sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old student. John Tyler Beatty, 28, of Smith Pond Drive in Denver, N.C., was charged with four counts of sexual activity between school personnel and student, and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a student by school personnel.

Detectives believe the incidents took place at different locations over five to six months, said Larry Seagle, spokesman for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. Seagle declined to comment on where the alleged incidents took place or the nature of the alleged sexual activity.
