Panning Porsche
As a nearly 30-year member of the Porsche Club of America and a current owner of the last true Porsche, an air-cooled 993 Carrera S, I cringed at the sight of the new Panamera (News, Oct. 2). First an SUV and now this monstrosity. There is no substitute? I'd say, "There is no more Porsche.''

So you think that the Porsche Panamera is the spiritual successor to the Porsche 928? I own the spiritual predecessor to the Panamera, and that car ain't no 928. May I suggest that a more relevant spiritual predecessor is the Lincoln Town Car?

We need glasses?
The VW Karmann Ghia was a fine design, but saying in the headline that it was better than any Porsche? No way ("Slower, but Prettier Than Any Porsche,'' Escape Roads, Sept. 25). There were several 356 models that had beautiful bodies and superb coachwork. I confess, owning Porsches for 35-plus years, I have a bias. There are several models that have more beautiful lines than the Karmann besides the 356's, including many of the 911 models that have sustained their basic design lines for more than 40 ...
