Taipei, October 16, 2006 (CENS)--To the great relief of the business community, the Executive Yuan (the cabinet) has decided to simplify the contents of the proposed energy tax, which may only incorporate commodity tax being levied on oil products and new commodity tax on coal and natural gas. Several existing duties will be excluded from energy tax, reversing the original planning, including air pollution duty, soil pollution duty, and levy for the petroleum fund. The incorporation of auto and motorcycle fuel charge into the new tax will be determined at the cabinet meeting tomorrow (October 17), which will also finalize the feasibility …
