Sheffield Medical Technologies Inc., Houston, Texas, announced that a Canadian patent has been issued covering the red blood cell ("RBC")-CD4 and Liposome-CD4 technologies exclusively licensed by the company for the treatment of HIV-infection and AIDS.

The Canadian patent, entitled "Animal Derived Cell with Antigenic Protein Introduced Therein," relates to engineered red blood cells and liposomes, which have incorporated the human CD4 antigen into their plasma membranes, and which may contain within their cells one or more cytotoxic agents capable of destroying any cells which fuse with the engineered cells.
