Oct. 15--Maureen Furr said her main concern as the new principal at South Mecklenburg High School isn't student achievement. That already is a part of the school culture, Furr said. "My main job will be to let the community know about what is happening here -- to celebrate the good that is going on," said Furr, who was named Tuesday as principal at the 1,988-student school. She replaces Marian Yates, who retired at the end of September. Furr knows a lot about student achievement.
