Oct. 15--Maureen Furr said her main concern as the new principal at South Mecklenburg High School isn't student achievement. That already is a part of the school culture, Furr said. "My main job will be to let the community know about what is happening here -- to celebrate the good that is going on," said Furr, who was named Tuesday as principal at the 1,988-student school. She replaces Marian Yates, who retired at the end of September. Furr knows a lot about student achievement.

She has been principal at Jay M. Robinson Middle School since it opened in 2002, and she was named one of four national winners earlier this year…
