NORDIC TELCO SUPPLIERS SIMS FOR EUROPEAN TRUCKS
With a recent agreement with automaker DaimlerChrysler, Norway-based mobile network operator Telenor says it expects to supply subscriber identity module cards for up to 90% of new trucks produced in Europe with onboard communications systems. The SIM cards will authenticate computer systems on the trucks, allowing them to transmit data to shipping companies. This so-called "telematics" equipment allows shipping companies to transmit new orders to truck drivers; keep track of location, speed, idle time and fuel consumption for each vehicle; and even diagnose mechanical problems.
