WILSON: The Hummer H3x is an appearance package atop the "luxury'' trim. Luxury trim notwithstanding, though, the H3 is not particularly comfortable. The ride is very trucky, and it sidesteps over washboard surfaces at modest speeds. It's also loud; a shape this blocky is bound to stir up wind noise, but there was also significant road noise from the fat tires and suspension bump-thump.
We used the truck to take junior back to college, but even though the price is similar to that of the Infiniti FX45 we did the same job with earlier, it neither excited his fellow design students as much nor felt as buttoned down on the highway-I averaged about 10 mph slower and got roughly the same mpg as the Infiniti, albeit on regular rather than premium gasoline.
