It's easy to grasp the appeal of the 20 cars, with their lack of sophistication and cutting-edge technology, featured in the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum's American Muscle exhibit.
"There's something really significant that happened in the last half of the 20th century to American cars,'' said museum executive director Patrick Foltz, "especially since it was sort of the last gasp of a proud time before modern times hit. This really was the finest hour of the American performance car.''
The Hershey, Pennsylvania, museum's exhibit of 1964-72 factory performance is on display through Oct. 8. Included are Pontiac GTOs from the 1964 introductory model through a 1970 Judge, a trio of Ford Mustangs from 1969 and 1970 and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Barracuda. Foltz said collectors have good reason to covet muscle cars.
