Porsche's four-door Panamera, up to now seen only in sketches and illustrations, has been spotted on public roads in Germany as it undergoes testing in preparation for a 2009 showroom debut.
While the prototype captured in these spy shots isn't quite as dramatic as the low-slung sedan shown in artist renderings, the photos do confirm Panamera will be a proper four-seater without suicide rear doors rumored to be in development.
Despite the disguise, it's easy to pick out the Porsche family resemblance, including the long front hood patterned after the discontinued Carrera GT, and the cooling ducts, wheel arches and rounded fenders from the 911 Turbo. The roof stretches well back toward the stubby rear, and the shut lines confirm Panamera will follow the example of its spiritual predecessor, the 928, by using a liftback rear hatch.
