Oct. 5--More than 90 students, teachers and family members from East Mecklenburg High School are running or walking Saturday in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Charlotte's uptown.
They are doing it in honor of a friend -- and in memory of another friend.
"This is the least we could do for Mr. Nixon," says Jessica Frisina, president of the senior class at East Mecklenburg.
"And we're keeping the memory of Mrs. Nixon with us, too," adds Bella Glauberman, a fellow East Mecklenburg senior.
The two girls, both 17, have organized East Mecklenburg High's participation in Saturday's event, a major fundraising effort for breast cancer research and treatment.
