US archive librarian Randy Silverman and conservation consultant Cathy Baker got their hands dirty by writing a paper that controversially claims that the practice of wearing white gloves when handling fragile archives is mistaken because it actually damages the documents it is supposed to protect.

Under the headline, No glove, no love?, Librarian.Net posted the critical paragraphs from Silverman and Baker's report and got the debate going with archivists backing up the claims. Archivist Chris Sauder reported how he had to deal with documents: "Brittle pages snapped
