Intuitive academic portal
' site review
Intute is the new single name for the individual subject-based portals previously known as the Resource Directory Network (RDN). Content from each RDN site has been bundled into the Intute portal.
Developed by the same team as RDN, Intute is financed by the educational body Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). It describes itself as a "free guide to the best internet resources for students, lecturers, and researchers".
The look and feel of this website is very crisp, bright and modern. It proves that non-commercial sites driven by information professionals can come up with goods every bit as exciting as the private sector.
There are four main channels, each of which is depicted with bright pictures on the front page, but the search engine dominates the page. The crisp looks follow through into the search results, with Intute developing a set of symbols so that users can quickly assess the search results returned. IWR likes this level of attention to detail.
